And Doug DeMuro was wrong.
It was actually 32 days ago now, I had been waiting 5 days for the funds to clear, and there was another buyer in line for the sale at the dealer where I purchased it from (and no, this was not a sales trick, as I happen to work for the dealer as well...), and I was told, unfortunately, if your funds don’t show up today we will have to sell it to the other buyer.
The pit in my stomach, a childhood dream, so close, yet so far away. My mind started racing, I HAD to have this car. I started calling every number I could find looking for short term cash. and then it happened. buzz buzz. One new notification, your funds have cleared. The smile on my face.
I took delivery at approximately 4:30 pm on 5/13/15. I got into the car, pushed the button, turned the key, and .... hmm, thats interesting. Lets try that again. Push the button, turn the key, and... Well now theres a crowd gathering, and I can’t seem to get this Ferrari started. ok one more time, push the button, turn the key, vroom! success!!! (turns out the alarm system is kind of touchy, and it takes a few minutes to understand what the buttons and lights mean).
Home at last.
The drive home way amazing. The sound of the flat-plane V8, the gawkers from onlookers and people hanging out car windows to video tape it. I have to admit, it was kind of fun.
The second thing I did with my Ferrari was get gas. I wouldn’t let them fill it up at the dealer because I wanted to make sure it only got top grade fuel from a Shell station.
Now !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that getting gas is the hardest part of owning an exotic car due to everyone and their mother wanting to come over and talk to you about their car, and ways it’s better than your. Now I have filled up 4 separate times in different parts of the city at different times of the day, and not once, has anyone even so much as said hello in my general direction on any of the trips.

Doug also seems to think you !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

So far I’ve taken my Ferrari to the grocery store, Target, the mall, a casino, a shopping center, a restaurant that is down a dirt and rock road, my work, and the gym. I’ve also driven it in the rain, on the highway in rush hour, and down Las Vegas Boulevard.
Yes, you do always have to watch for bad drivers, but I do that in my other cars anyways. Yes, you do get attention, but maybe it’s just my area, it’s not so frequent that it’s a bother. Yes, the cost of repairs is high on a vehicle like this, but, compared to other cars of similar make, its quite affordable, and, as Mr. DeMuro also pointed out, the 360 is one of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Ferrari has produced.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
While I haven’t intentionally tried to go places and pick up women, I doubt that would be an issue, as this is Vegas... I also have had no issues getting insurance, and my insurance company did not limit my mileage, but rather told me that my insurance would be void if I participated in any rally’s, speed contests, or race events. Again, I live in Vegas, where there is no snow, so the roads don’t fall apart, and there are no sink holes in the road. So far, everyone who has ridden in the car has told me how surprised they are at how smooth the car actually is.
I can’t say I am disappointed with the car, but I can say, as my first purchase into the exotic world, I probably should have gone with something a little less spendy to get my toes wet, but all in all, it’s an amazing car, with an amazing ride, and incredibly fun to drive, especially in sport mode, and even with a non-three-pedal transmission.
So thanks Doug, for making me terrified of my purchase for no reason. I would totally do it again, and my only hope is that I can make more money so I can buy another with a proper transmission.

Ive been DDing my SL600 Sport for a several weeks now. I really cant wait to get my wagon back, but its arguably nicer on a daily basis, more comfortable, more amenities, but Im spending easily double my gas budget, if not more.
It also sucks having to park it on the street every night and drive it through terrible traffic every day. V12s do not appreciate traffic when its 97F out. The temp gauge goes up, and stays up. Aside from having to keep the electric fans on at all times for that, driving an exotic just costs a lot of gas money. Even my insurance isnt much, just a few dollars more than Magnum with more coverage actually.
I have been stopped quite a lot to know more about it, but not just anywhere. Theres a certain crowd that always pops up. Otherwise, you just play the old ‘count the cylinders’ game with the younger crowd.

So what you’re saying is, it wasn’t the car, it was Doug the Muro’s radiant charisma that brought all the car nuts to the yard. That’s easy to believe; in fact, it should have been obvious all along.

Yea, those rentals are maintained, but not in the intervals they should. I rented a 430 once and the transmission felt really really harsh. I later spoke to a 430 owner who told me the, more than likely, the clutch wasn’t replaced at proper intervals, because Ferrari recommends replacing them at 70% remaining life at a cost of roughly $3500. Its a rental, so people are going to be so overjoyed that they get to drive a Ferrari they wont even realize the clutch is down to 10% .

Pretty solid. The trans on the 360 is decent, they did a software update in 04 which helped the trans out a lot (and thats something I could do if I wanted to), and they burn through clutches if you try to drive it like it has an auto trans.

It should be noted I was VERY careful to say that the car didn’t work for me. I did not say it wouldn’t work for everyone. This is a very important distinction that was lost on a lot of FerrariChat people too.
I still love Ferraris and would happily own another someday, but it didn’t work for me for many many reasons I outlined after nearly a year of driving and 5,000 miles.
It’s also worth noting that I loved mine at first, too. The first four months were a lot of fun. The day I sold it was the happiest day of my ownership experience.
Finally, it’s worth noting that one thing I’ve learned over the last two years is that people who spend big money on these cars do so with a lot of emotion involved, which is why they’ve become so angry with me. I didn’t have the emotional attachment that clouds many owners’ judgement about the ownership experience, and I think that’s crucial to judging the car fairly. Ferrari gets away with a lot of stuff - stuff that Honda couldn’t even pull off - by selling emotion and experience.
My two cents. I am seriously glad you're enjoying the car. It looks great.

Yeah the attention for rarer cars comes and goes, it seems to pour more than rain. I don’t have a Ferrari but I have a pretty loud and orange 240Z that seems to have made a lot of memories for people in the 70’s. I get many at gas stations and parking lots come tell me they used to have one or a boyfriend had one (some I’m sure were 260’s and 280’s). I live in Marin/SF, I have always felt people here will inquire about a classic but not a newer exotic, not sure why. My dad’s friend has a 458 and he says people never talk to him, they look but don’t approach him. This area is pretty well known for leaving famous people alone in public so I think it connects with that. I do sometimes get people hanging out car windows asking me questions at a stoplight, I have been collecting notes to buy it left under my wiper.

When there are 6 new Ferraris at the meet ups I don’t even look at them, its like a Civic to me, if its all stock, I’ve seen so many. 911s too, they are like Camrys here in SF. I go for the odd classics that appear like Lancias and rare Euro imports because its as close as I can get to one and I can ask the owner to check out stuff.

Are the plastic/rubber switches and knobs melting or getting tacky yet from the heat? I know someone that had a 360 and that was one of his biggest gripes. Apparently its a common problem that still unfixed. He went to the dealer to price out replacing all the switchgear and they told him not to bother, since it would happen again with the new switches.

Congrats! Looks marvelous! I’m curious about some things, though:
- Do you find that you need to keep it on a tender when parked?
- Do you plan on keeping it for awhile, or is this a delicious dalliance (summer romance)?
Well done, sir.

Maybe I missed something in your article. Sounded like you liked the car to me. Time to go back and reread.

I don’t know...I live in Vegas and am always bothered when I am fueling. My car IS orange and loud as hell, though.

The Jalop world is getting small all of a sudden. I am friends with the Nobel owner. I wasn't at the last E&E though, so I didn't see the Ferrari.

Greetings fellow Vegas exotic owner. Well, I think mine is more semi-exotic, but I assume we will run into each other at some point at C&C or E&E.

It’s not “please notice me I’m desperate for attention red.” Odds are the first comment you’ll get is “is that the new Corvette?”
